Directions and options to get to Tau Game Lodge

How to get there...

Option 1 - Self Drive:

• 360 km from Johannesburg, an easy 4 hour drive on National roads (see map) Rather do not use a GPS.
• From Pretoria take the N4 direction Rustenburg
• From Johannesburg travel via Fourways to Hartebeestpoortdam, following the signs to Rustenburg and Brits to begin with and once on the N4 continue this toll road to Rustenburg, Swartruggens, Groot Marico and Zeerust. Toll fees ± R 130.00.
• You may wish to re-fuel in Zeerust as there is no fuel available in the Reserve.
• In Zeerust, A green provincial road sign indicates a right turn coming up to Gaborone, continue to drive towards the next road sign  just thereafter and then turn right onto the R 49 to Gaborone.
• Follow the R49 towards Madikwe Game Reserve for approximately 97km.
• First gate you will pass is Abjaterskop, drive past this gate for 7kms the next gate is Wonderboom, pass this and travel to the Kopfontein border post going towards Gaborone
• Turn right onto the Derdepoort Gate road, just before the border post and follow the road for approximately 10 km to the Tau lodge gate (all roads up to this point are tarred.)

 

Option 2 - Transfer by Coach or Minibus:

• Transfers and charters to Tau Game Lodge is available on request.

Option 3 - By Air transfer:

• Daily scheduled flights depart from Oliver Thambo Airport (Johannesburg International Airport)
• Please see the details below:

Daily Flight times and rates effective 1 January 2022 until 31 December 2022

Flights depart from The Federal Air Executive Lounge / Hangar complex at O.R. Tambo (old Jhb Int), where complimentary bar service, teas & coffees, shower & internet facilities are available. The service is operated with aircraft from their late model fleet of 14 Cessna Grand caravans and twin-engine aircraft.

Please note: Guests are to make their way to the Federal Air Airport Kiosk – in the OR Tambo International Bus Terminal behind the Intercontinental Hotel. Complimentary transport to the Federal Air lounge will be arranged from there. Alternatively, directions to the Departure Lounge are available at www.fedair.com.

An Executive Meet & Greet service is available at an additional charge.

Very Important!

...in order to facilitate smooth connections

• Connecting flights on the way to Madikwe must arrive at least 2 hours before the Madikwe Flight departure time
• Connecting flights on return should be booked 2 hours after expected return time from Madikwe onwards for local flights and 3 hours after return time from Madikwe onwards for International flights.

When making use of the scheduled flights to Tau it is preferable that the flight bookings are handled by the Tau Game Lodge Reservations team, as the road transfers between Madikwe Airstrip and Tau Game Lodge will be provided free of charge when flights are booked through Tau.
